KlipFolio is a freeware sidebar that can be used as desktop dashboard to display relevant information to the user.
This software has three versions:
1. KlipFolio: a freeware sidebar that can be used to easily display relevant information to the user. Which is described in this page.
2. KlipFolio Enterprise: a departmental dashboard used by businesses to place key performance indicators or metrics, and information exchange on the PC desktop.
3. KlipFolio Branded: a branded desktop application used by online businesses to encourage and facilitate customer interaction.
Since the appearance of the famous "Yahoo Widgets", we have seen how different designers tried to imitate them, and designed software that allows working with various widgets, which puts different types of information directly on the desktop of our system. Such is the case of Google Desktop, Kapsules, Microsoft Gadgets for Windows and other platforms such as SuperKaramba for Linux, and Apple Dashboard for Mac OS X.
Some developers have done this as well or better than Yahoo, while others leave something to be desired, or do not have enough popularity to attract developers to create more and better widgets. Really, the concept of Widgets was invented before Yahoo made the most famous buying the Konfabulator software to the company that created it and distributed so far.
KlipFolio is one of the most impressive competitors in this race. It was developed by a company called Serence, based in Ottawa, Canada. As said above, the idea of KlipFolio is similar to Yahoo Widgets. It is an information system in which the user can add various widgets, which in this software are called Klips, which give us different types of data, such as RSS feeds, weather, sports results, time, News, ... almost anything that we want, and if there is not a Klip for the wanted information, KlipFolio give us the necessary tools to create it.
This software is multilingual, not only at it's interface, but also in each Klip and also fully supports the Unicode format. Another important feature is that it has an audible alarm system that notifies the user when they reach new news or when you get some information with some word predefined by the user.
This software consumes from 1 to 16 MB of RAM, depending on the amount of the installed Klips, but overall requires no more than 16 MB, which places it as one of the programs of its kind with less memory consumption. It's a nice program, useful and keeps us abreast of all our interests, consumes almost no resources, has no adware or spyware, allows us to put our widgets ... who else can we ask?
